VQ37VHR Tuning Guide for the Nissan 370Z and Infiniti G37
Intakes, exhaust components, fuel type, injector data, cam timing, VVEL and throttle mapping all affect the final result.
The VQ37VHR responds best when airflow changes and ECU calibration are treated as one system. This guide explains what owners should address before tuning and what a custom calibration changes.
When does a VQ37 need a tune?
A tune is strongly recommended after significant intake or exhaust changes and is mandatory when the MAF housing diameter changes, larger injectors are installed, E85 is used, or forced induction is added. Even modifications that allow the engine to run on the stock calibration may deliver more consistent power and drivability once properly calibrated.
Intake calibration
Stock-MAF-diameter intakes may operate acceptably without immediate scaling changes. Full 3-inch intakes require new MAF calibration because the sensor sees different velocity at the same total airflow. Both banks must be checked for balanced fuel trims and stable measurement.
Exhaust modifications
Cat-back exhausts generally have a smaller calibration impact than headers, high-flow cats or test pipes. Once restriction is reduced substantially, fueling, ignition and cam/VVEL strategy should be evaluated from data rather than assumptions.
Pump fuel and E85
Ethanol can increase knock resistance and charge cooling, but it also requires more fuel volume. Confirm injector and pump capacity for the intended ethanol content and power level. A tune should never command more fuel than the system can maintain under load.

Preparing useful datalogs
Start with a mechanically healthy vehicle. Use the requested gear, RPM range and throttle input on a safe, legal closed course or dyno. Do not continue a pull through abnormal fuel pressure, lean operation, excessive knock, misfire or rising temperature.
Choosing a VQ37 tuner
Ask how many examples of your platform and modification type the tuner has calibrated, what the revision process includes, which safety channels are reviewed, and whether the tune is custom to the vehicle. Evidence and repeatable data matter more than peak dyno screenshots.
